This XWB (Extra Wide Band) driver with 8mm diaphragm offers 5-45kHz frequency response. Compared with the IE800 released in 2012, this new model is built with pure Titanium diaphragm and better driving technology, and has been applied in Hi-End earphones with Hi-Res certification.
What’s the difference with the 7.8mm XWB driver
There some major improvements on the structure and sound characters:
- Physical strength improvements
- The front cover changed to stainless steel
- Add a protective copper ring to the diaphragm (and increase the outsize from 7.8mm to 8mm)
- Upgrade of the diaphragm to a pure Titanium diaphragm made in Germany (note it’s not Titanium Plated diaphragm used in many low-mid end earphones)
- 1~1.5dB increase on the overall sensitivity
- +2.5dB on low/mid bass, which is now more punchy and deep
- -5dB on 7-9kHz to effectively suppress the harmful sibilant
- Extend the high-treble at 10Khz and 15Khz- 20kHz, and increase airyness
Some limits you should know
- 3kHz mid is a little bit emphasized (+2dB), meaning the vocal getting more obvious.
- Impulse response latency is slightly longer (+0.2ms) due to the low-bass extension.
- Pure Titanium diaphragm needs ~10h time to burn-in.
Measurement is based on an IEC711 coupler, a customized USB sound card and Win10 PC running ARTA Software.

CSD (Cumulative Spectral Decay), i.e., the waterfall diagram. Notice the decay rate at 500hz-20Khz is very consistent, meaning less interference among bass, mid and treble.

Proceed with caution: dynamic drivers are with extremely fragile (1~5μm) diaphragm and can be easily damaged in following situations.
- Soldering: overheated (>250 degree C) soldering iron or overtime soldering (>2s) may permanently damage the driver. Please heat the driver as little as possible during soldering.
- Installation: the driver has Sintered NdFeB Magnetic inside with extremely strong attraction power. The fragile diaphragm may be damaged by having anything metallic hit it.
- Gluing: attaching glue either to the diaphragm or the backside holes may greatly alter the sound
- Chemical: Applying any chemical solvent will void your warrant and we will not be able to help you
- Others: applying high-voltage, storing in high temperature/humid environment… all may cause unrecoverable damage.
